OPENING NIGHT OF "BELLS, BOOKS AND CANDLESTICKS"
We had a great opening on Sat.! Lots of people in town, visitors and our wonderful community turning out in droves. Thank you all for coming. Here are a few pictures Sharen Heath took of some of our great artists! Cary Jurriaans is on the left. Her beautiful paintings are exhibited in the front of the gallery. Cary is the instructor at the newly established "Whidbey Fine Arts Studio" here in Langley. Being from Holland, her work resembles the Dutch Masters' style she grew up surrounded by. Bridget Fischer, on the right created some glorious books which are on the table as you first walk into the gallery. Bridget also made a little desk complete with tiny hand carved books and an inkwell. It is so sweet and would look wonderful in someone's library!
Another fabulous bookmaker is Suzanne Schlicke. Her books are so unique!! She even has a deliciously delectable book made with Nori as papers! Suzanne was so busy on Sat. night but she took time to come the opening and enjoy being one of the featured artists. Then she was whisked off to Freeland for the Mr. South Whidbey fund raising event. Suzanne is the current President of the non-profit Friends of Friends which sponsored the event. WHEW, we were glad she could join us before going to crown M
r. Doug Kelly as the new Mr. So. Whidbey! Doug is our landlord. Hopefully he won't be lording that over us (tee hee)!
Finally, we added a new artist to our fabulous group this month. Sherryl Goldfinger joined our ranks as one of our esteemed woodworkers. She made three beautifully turned candlesticks out of Douglas Fir. Having just returned from the rain forests of Peru, she was excited to be working in a renewable wood like Doug Fir. These elegant candlesticks have the most amazing contours that Sherryl by accentuating the grain. The dark eggplant color and unique design would dress up any table or mantle. Thank you Sharen for sharing!! If you haven't made it in we look forward to seeing you soon. If you did come to the opening but had too much fun visiting and would like to come and take your time looking, we welcome you. Rene and Anne
