Art That's like a Scenic Trip Around the NW
**Note, this show opens on Sat. June 29, a one time change from our usual first Sat. Art Walk tradition. Ahh, summer is here! It arrived early this year and is in full swing now that our show for July and August is opening at Brackenwood Gallery. We are thrilled to welcome back three of the best artists in the region, Pete Jordan -Oil, Susan Ogilvie – Pastel and Ginny O’Neill - Watercolor
I am always amazed at the breadth of territory that can be covered in a theme such as A Painters’ Summer in the Northwest. These artists definitely captured the essence of what I think of as summer: evening sunsets, kids and families playing on beaches, slow moving rivers and sailboats. It gets you in the mood to relax and enjoy life in the out of doors!
For me these painters’ landscapes are very evocative. I grew up around rivers because my parents loved fly-fishing. Susan Ogilvie’s river scenes transport me to a river where I am sitting on a rock enjoying the soft soughing sounds of a slow moving stream.
Ginny O’Neill’s old oyster house sitting on piers cantilevered over the bay, reminds me of the one I always see near Penn Cove Pottery on the way to Oak Harbor. I love that weathered old building, it makes me wonder what life was like when it was new.
And of course I can always imagine sitting on a log on Double Bluff beach in one of Pete Jordan’s paintings. A soft salty breeze blowing through my hair, the warm sun on my back and the sand between my toes.
Brackenwood’s new show is like taking a NW car trip; only the beautiful scenery is captured on canvas and set in frames instead of a blur rushing by outside the car window!
This show starts with an Artists’ Reception from 5-7 PM on Sat. June 29 and continues through Sept. 2, 2013. Come on in and enjoy the trip!
